Janice Wong MGM to open in new resort

Pastry shop Janice Wong MGM will be opened by Singapore chef Janice Wong in the new MGM Cotai resort in Macau in the last quarter this year.

Seating 70 people, the 2800 sqft (260 sqm) space will feature a 7.3m-tall chocolate fountain spouting streams of dark, milk and white chocolate.

On the lobby level of the 1400-room integrated resort, the shop will also have chocolate, crepe and dessert stations, and offer Wong’s range of confections including cakes, eclairs, chocolates, waffles, mochi and plated desserts.

Wong incorporates Singapore flavours into sweets, such as gula melaka pandan and laksa-leaf lemongrass chocolates, and chocolate bak kwa (barbecued pork jerky) cookies.

Other restaurants lined up for MGM Cotai include Aji, A Nikkei (hybrid Peruvian-Japanese cuisine); Grill 58 Degree, a meat-centric restaurant by French-Argentine chef Mauro Colagreco; and Coast, a Western restaurant by American chef Graham Elliot.

It is Wong’s third overseas venture. She opened Cobo House by 2am:dessertbar, a casual fine-dining restaurant in Hong Kong, and Janice Wong Dessert Bar in Tokyo last year.

The chef/owner of the original 2am: dessertbar in Singapore’s Holland Village also launched a flagship restaurant at the National Museum Singapore last August.
