Leigh & Orange to design Hangzhou development

A Hangzhou development project including a retail podium will be master planned by Hong Kong architecture firm Leigh & Orange (L&O).

It has been awarded the design contract for the first project being run as a joint venture by residential developer Vanke and Hangzhou Metro.

At the Xiangyuanlu metro station, the transit-oriented development (TOD) covers 27,300 sqm, with 68,300 sqm of above-ground commercial gross floor area and a 43,400 sqm basement for retail and parking. L&O was appointed by Vanke to cover master planning as well as provide architecture design services.

With its focus on the engagement with the community, the development will include pocket space, sports playground, roof garden, urban farm and communal amenities at different levels. There will be seamless connection to the underground metro station.

L&O has already worked on a range of TOD projects, mixed-use and commercial areas designed to maximise land values and return on investment through optimising access to public transport, and incorporating features to encourage the development of integrated environments for living, working and playing.

Founded in 1874, Leigh & Orange works throughout China as well as in Hong Kong and the Middle East.
