Great Festival of Innovation boosts British goods
British brands will receive a free boost from three China and Hong Kong e-tailers as part of this week’s Great Festival of Innovation.
Goxip, MyMM and TThigo have agreed to run complimentary banner advertising promoting British goods on their platforms. Together, the three platforms have a combined potential audience of 720 million internet users across China and Hong Kong.
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is amplifying these campaigns to Asian consumers across digital channels, highlighting a host of sectors where British firms are leaders. Benefitting from this initiative are 164 British brands in fashion, beauty, homeware and general consumer merchandise, including fashion designers such as Victoria Beckham and Vivienne Westwood to Waitrose and Wool and the Gang.
The week-long campaign is being timed to coincide with the Great Festival of Innovation in Hong Kong (for four days from tomorrow), which will showcase the best of Britain to Asia.
International Trade Secretary Dr Liam Fox says demand is growing for quality UK goods and services in key international markets “and as we look to create our own independent trade policy for the first time in more than 40 years our businesses stand ready to flourish”.
At the festival, UK businesses will have the chance to meet with Asian counterparts to discuss trade and investment opportunities.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that trade in goods and services between the UK and Hong Kong reached £19.6 billion (HK$215.8 billion) last year, up 15.1 per cent from 2016.
DIT’s E-exporting Program helps UK retailers and brands to accelerate their global growth via e-commerce. It partners with marketplaces to deliver online promotions, raising awareness for British exporters.
The Great Festival of Innovation Hong Kong follows similar events in Istanbul (2014) and Shanghai (2015) with the vision of creating long-term partnerships that drive the future of free trade and prosperity between the UK and Asia.
Several hundred delegates will attend the Hong Kong event, at the Asia Society Hong Kong Centre and featuring more than 60 panels and events.
