Swire Properties broadening Cityplaza mix
Swire Properties’ Cityplaza in Taikoo will add more than 10 eateries and retail outlets progressively this year.
Retailers spanning restaurants, fashion, childrenswear, sportswear, and lifestyle and beauty will join the 20 shops already added as part of the centre’s tenant enhancement program.
Its new anchor tenant, Movie Movie Cityplaza, has just opened, and an incubation program aimed at helping local start-ups will be launched soon.
Movie Movie Cityplaza is a new cinema concept for Hong Kong, featuring seven theatres equipped with the latest projection technology and sound systems. The 270-seat MovieMaxx is Asia’s first theatre to feature high-contrast laser technology and a 3D sound system. It also has a 14-seat VIP screening room, MM Moments, and the House by Kubrick art space that will host cultural events including film festivals and premieres, and exhibitions. The space also offers artisanal coffee.
New outlets for Cityplaza this year include a Lego Certified Store, sports and lifestyle labels Asics and Vans, beauty-care label Melvita, and F&B offerings Glasshouse and On-Yasai, a shabu shabu restaurant from Japan. Other new shop will include Japanese fashion retailer NorieM, Japanese children’s label As Know As Ponpoko, and fashion accessory outlets Melissa and Oriental Traffic.
“Cityplaza is the largest shopping mall on Hong Kong Island and continues to be a big draw for shoppers,” says Swire Properties deputy-director for retail (Hong Kong) Fiona Shiu.
The incubation program Maker House starts next month. Over six months, the program, run in collaboration with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, will give three sustainability-related start-ups experience in running a business in Cityplaza with a two-month rental waiver. Lifestyle and housewares brand Pomaru will be the first to open a pop-up store.
“An initiative under Swire Properties’ Sustainable Development 2030 strategy, the program will help us create further synergy with the community by helping young entrepreneurs – our partners of the future – get their fledgling businesses off the ground,” says Cityplaza GM Aileen Chan.
