Smartphone saleswoman arrested for trading offence

Hong Kong Customs has arrested a smartphone store saleswoman suspected of illegally applying a false trade description in the sale of a smartphone.

The arrested woman was found to have falsely claimed that a smartphone on sale was a brand new product.

She has been released on bail pending further investigation.

Customs has reminded traders to comply with the law and encourages consumers to purchase products at reputable shops.

The maximum penalty for making false declarations during a sale is a fine of HK$500,000 (US$63,700) and imprisonment for five years.
