Bauhaus sales slump
Bauhaus sales slumped yet again in the latest quarter, falling heavily in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, but rising in Mainland China.
Bauhaus designs and makes apparel and accessories which it wholesales and retails under its brand names including Bauhaus, Salad, 80/20 and Tough. It also retails third-party labels including Superdry.
According to a stock exchange filing, same-store Bauhaus sales in the quarter to June 30 were down by 30 per cent in Taiwan and by 14 per cent in Hong Kong and Macau. Sales in China rose 9 per cent.
That followed an equally dismal performance in the prior three months, when same-store sales in Hong Kong and Macau fell 17 per cent, by 35 per cent in Taiwan and by 13 per cent on the mainland.
As at June 30, the group had 190 self-managed offline shops: 74 in Hong Kong and Macau, having closed three during the quarter, 73 in Taiwan and 43 in China, having closed three.
The company offered no reason for its sales decline.
