K11 Fashion Month billed as Hong Kong’s first-ever public fashion show
K11 Art Mall is presenting K11 Fashion Month, its very first “public fashion show” in Hong Kong this summer following its “Fashion Decode” theme.
From now until September 1, local artists and designers Zoe Siu and Yeung Chin will hold a show of knot art inspired by traditional craftsmanship, colourful folk costumes and performance art. Unlike ordinary fashion shows, the exhibition is not only allowing visitors to enjoy artworks from the two artists, but also encourages individual participation. Spectators can perform several roles at the same time as a fashion designer, model and fashion stylist to “unravel the underlying fashion code in daily life with one’s own language”.
The show will be staged in the Chi K11 art space. Before entering the exhibition hall, every participant will receive a piece of copper and weaved cloth to make a bespoke name card before selecting an outfit out of six Yeung designs to wear while striding down the fashion runway.
After a series of fashion shows, a group of professional dancers will put on Yeung’s pieces and perform a dramatic dance on stage, making use of their clothing in coordination with eight different music microfilms scenes and the synchronising rhythm of a typewriter. The performance will extend beyond the Chi K11 art space and cover the whole B2/F of K11 Art Mall.
Visitors can still enjoy the video art and “become a typewriter” on non-performance days.
Local knot artist and designer Zoe Siu’s exhibition will leverage the art form’s moldability to create three sets of uniquely forward-looking, large-scale interactive knot art installations, with Hong Kong’s largest indoor hand-crafted knot-art tower measuring about 12-metres tall at its centre. Participants can try weaving their own knots on a streamlined wall of strings alongside the woven tower.
Participants can also enjoy an early trial of local casual-wear platform Kalon Couture’s online fitting function, by creating a 3D virtual avatar and picking from the latest fashion collections in K11 Art Mall like a fashion stylist to create unique looks for the summer. Participants can receive a free photo of the virtual fitting and create their own fashion portfolio by liking K11 Art Mall’s and Kalon Couture’s Facebook pages.
